ತಿರುಮಲ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಆಂಧ್ರ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಚಿತ್ತೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ತಿರುಪತಿ ಬಳಿ ತಿರುಮಲ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ವೈದಿಕ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಆಗಿದೆ . ಇದು ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್ ನಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 600 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ( 370 ಮೈಲಿ) , ಚೆನೈ ನಿಂದ 138 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ( 86 ಮೈಲಿ) ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ 291 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ( 181 ಮೈಲು) ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ತಿರುಮಲ ಬೆಟ್ಟ ಸಮುದ್ರ ಮಟ್ಟದಿಂದ 853m ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರದೇಶದಿಂದ 10,33 ಚದರ ಮೈಲಿ ( 27 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. 2 ) ಇದೆ . ಈ ಬೆಟ್ಟವು ಏಳು ಶಿಖರಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದೆ ಇದು ಆದಿಶೇಷನ ಏಳು ತಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಶೇಷಾಚಲಂ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರುಗಳಿಸಿದೆ . ಏಳು ಶಿಖರಗಳು ಶೇಷಾದ್ರಿ, ನೀಲಾದ್ರಿ , ಗರುಡಾದ್ರಿ , ಅಂಜನಾದ್ರಿ , ವೃಷಭಾದ್ರಿ , ನಾರಾಯಣಾದ್ರಿ ಮತ್ತು ವೆಂಕಟಾದ್ರಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ದೇವಾಲಯ ವೆಂಕಟಾದ್ರಿ ಏಳನೇ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ” ಸೆವೆನ್ ಹಿಲ್ಸ್ ದೇವಾಲಯ ” ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ದೇವಾಲಯದ ದೈವವಾದ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ್ವರ , ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಒಂದು ಅವತಾರ . ಬಾಲಾಜಿ , ಗೋವಿಂದ , ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ,ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ್ವರ ಇತರ ಹೆಸರುಗಳಿಂದ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ದೇವಾಲಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಪುಷ್ಕರಣಿ , ಪವಿತ್ರ ನೀರಿನ ಟ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ದಂಡೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ನೆಲೆಸಿದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಕಟ್ಟಡವನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯ ತಿರುವನಂತಪುರಂನ ಶ್ರೀ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಾಲಯ , ಕೇರಳ , ನಂತರ ವಿಶ್ವದ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಯಾತ್ರಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ . ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸುಮಾರು ೫೦,೦೦೦ ದಿಂದ ೧,೦೦,೦೦೦ ಭಕ್ತರು ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶೇಷ ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ೫,೦೦,೦೦ ಗಿಂತಲು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಭಕ್ತರು ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಿರುಮಲ ದೇವರ ಕುರುಹು ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಹಲವಾರು ದಂತಕಥೆಗಳು ಇವೆ. ಒಂದು ದಂತಕಥೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಶ್ರೀ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ್ವರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯು ಕಲಿಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ನಂಬಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ವೆಂಕಟಾಚಲ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ :
ಪೂರ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಧರ್ಮಿಷ್ಟನಾದ ಜನಕ ರಾಜನು ಧರ್ಮದಿಂದ ರಾಜ್ಯಭಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದನು. ಅವನಿಗೆ ಕುಶಕೇತುವೆಂಬ ತಮ್ಮ ಇದ್ದನು. ಅವನ‌ಪತ್ನಿ ಬಹು ಪತಿವ್ರತೆ ಆಗಿದ್ದಳು. ಆ ದಂಪತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮೂರು ಜನ ಪುತ್ರಿಯರು. ಜನಕರಾಜನಿಗೆ ಜಾನಕಿ ಎಂಬ ನಾಮದಿಂದ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುವ ಜಗನ್ಮಾತೆ ಪುತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಳೆ.
ಹೀಗೆ ಜನಕರಾಜನು ಪತ್ನಿ ಪುತ್ರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹೋದರನ ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆನಂದವಾಗಿ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಭಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದನು. ಒಂದು ದಿನ ರಾಜನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಸರ್ವದಾ ಸುಖವಾಗಿಯೇ ಇರಬೇಕು.. ದುಃಖ ಗಳನ್ನು ಕಣ್ಣಿನಿಂದ ನೋಡಬಾರದು ಎಂದು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷೆ ಪಟ್ಟನು.. ಸಮ್ಮತವಲ್ಲವಾದುದರಿಂದ ಭಗವಂತನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ದುಃಖ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಜನಕರಾಜನ ತಮ್ಮ ಕುಶಕೇತು ಮರಣ ಹೊಂದಿದ. ಅವನ ಪತ್ನಿ ಸಹ ಅವನ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಹಗಮನ ಮಾಡಿದಳು. ಅನಾಥರಾದ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಕಡು ದುಃಖಿತನಾದ ಜನಕರಾಜನು ಅನ್ನಾಹಾರಗಳನ್ನು ತ್ಯಜಿಸಿದನು. ಆಗ ದೈವಯೋಗದಿಂದ ಕುಲಪುರೋಹಿತರು, ವಾಮದೇವ ಮುನಿಗಳ ಸಹೋದರರು ಆದ ಶತಾನಂದರು ಮಿಥಿಲೆಗೆ ಬಂದರು. ಅರ್ಘ್ಯ ಪಾದಾದಿಗಳಿಂದ ಅವರನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸಿ ಸತ್ಕರಿಸಿ ತನಗೆ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತ ವಾದ ದುಃಖ ವನ್ನು ಅವರ ಬಳಿ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡನು.
ಆವಾಗ ಶತಾನಂದರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.. ರಾಜನ್ ಕಲಿಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ವೆಂಕಟಗಿರಿ ಮಹಾತ್ಮೆ ಯನ್ನು ಶ್ರವಣ ಮಾಡುವದರಿಂದ ಸರ್ವಪಾಪವು ಪರಿಹಾರವಾಗುವದು..
ನಿನ್ನ ಶತೃನಾಶ,ಪುತ್ರಿ ಯರ ವಿವಾಹ, ಸಕಲ ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಸು ಗಳು ಅದರ ಶ್ರವಣದಿಂದ ದೊರಕುತ್ತವೆ.
ಈ ಪರ್ವತಕ್ಕೆ ಕೃತಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ವೃಷಭಾಚಲವೆಂದು,
ತ್ರೇತಾಯುಗ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂಜನಾಚಲವೆಂದು,
ದ್ವಾಪರದಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇಷಾಚಲವೆಂದು, ಕಲಿಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ವೆಂಕಟಾಚಲವೆಂದು ಯುಗಭೇದದಿಂದ ಹೆಸರುಂಟಾಗಿದೆ.ಅಂತ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಕಾಂಚಿಪುರಂನ ಪಲ್ಲವರು ತಂಜಾವುರಿನ ಚೋಳರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ಅರಸರು ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ್ವರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಭಕ್ತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಮಲ್ಲೀ ಕಫ಼ುರ್ ಆಕ್ರಮಣ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ರಂಗ ಮಂಟಪ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಶ್ರೀರಂಗನ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಆಶ್ರಯವಾಗಿತ್ತು.ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಹಾಗೂ ಗಾತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡದಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯಿತು.ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದ ಕಾರಣವೇನೆಂದರೆ ವಜ್ರಗಳ ಕೊಡುಗೆ.೧೫೧೭ ಇಸವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ದೊರೆಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣದೇವರಾಯ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದಾಗ ಚಿನ್ನ ಆಭರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಕೃಷ್ಣದೇವರಾಯ ಹಾಗು ಹೆಂಡತಿಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೆ. ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯವು ಇಳಿತವನ್ನು ಕಂಡಾಗ ಮೈಸೂರು ಗಡ್ಡವಾರಿನ ಭಕ್ತರು ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಒಡವೆ ಹಾಗು ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ಮರಾಠ ಜನರ ರಾಗೋಜೀ ಬೋನ್ಸಾಲೆ (ಸಾವು-೧೭೫೫) ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಬೀಟಿ ನೀಡಿ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಶಾಶ್ವತವಾದ ಆಡಳಿತವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರು.
