ಇವರ ತಂದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆರು ಜನ ಚಿಕ್ಕಪ್ಪಂದಿರು, ಸೈನ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಬೇದಾರರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ರಾಮಜಿ ಮತ್ತು ಭೀಮಬಾಯಿ ರವರು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಕಷ್ಟ ಸಹಿಷ್ಣುಗಳಾದ ಸತಿಪತಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರಿಗೆ 14 ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದರು. ಈ 14ನೇ ಮಗುವೇ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್. ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಅವರ ಮೊದಲ ಹೆಸರು ಭೀಮರಾವ್ ಆಗಿತ್ತು. ಡಾ. ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರರು ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಯರಿಗೆ 14 ನೇ ರತ್ನನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಿಂದ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ತನಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ದಲಿತ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಏನನ್ನೂ ಮುಟ್ಟಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಪ್ಯೂನ್ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ನೀರು ಕುಡಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರ ತಂದೆ 1894 ರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿವೃತ್ತರಾದರು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರು ಸತಾರಾಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳಿದ 2 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ನಂತರ ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ನಿಧನರಾದರು. ಅವರ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಹೋದರ ಸಹೋದರಿಯರಲ್ಲಿ, ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಮಾತ್ರ ತಮ್ಮ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತೀರ್ಣರಾಗಿ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋದರು. ನಂತರ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರ ಶಾಲೆ, ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕ, ಅವರ ಉಪನಾಮವನ್ನು ಅಂಬಾಡವೇಕರ್‌ನಿಂದ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿದರು, ಅದನ್ನು ಅವರ ತಂದೆ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಎಂದು ದಾಖಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಇದು ದಲಿತರ ಮೇಲಿನ ತಾರತಮ್ಯದ ಮಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಡಾ. ಭೀಮ್ ರಾವ್ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ 1897 ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಎಲ್ಫಿನ್‌ಸ್ಟೋನ್ ಹೈಸ್ಕೂಲ್‌ಗೆ ದಾಖಲಾದ ಏಕೈಕ ಅಸ್ಪೃಶ್ಯರಾದರು. 1906 ರಲ್ಲಿ, 15 ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಅವರು 9 ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ರಮಾಬಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ವಿವಾಹವಾದರು.

ಭಾರತದ ಸಂವಿಧಾನ
ಭಾರತದ ಸಂವಿಧಾನವು ಭಾರತದ ಜನರನ್ನು ಆಳುವ ಸರಕಾರದ ಮೂಲ ರಚನೆಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸಂವಿಧಾನವು ೯ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ ೧೯೪೭ ರಿಂದ ೨೬ ನವೆಂಬರ್ ೧೯೪೯ರ ಮಧ್ಯ ಭಾರತದ ಸಂವಿಧಾನ ರಚನಾ ಸಭೆಯಿಂದ ರಚನೆಗೊಂಡು, ೨೬ ಜನವರಿ ೧೯೫೦ ರಂದು ಜಾರಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿತು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿವರ್ಷ ಜನವರಿ ೨೬ ರಂದು ಗಣರಾಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸವ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಭಾರತದ ಸಂವಿಧಾನ ಇಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗಿನ ಮೂಲದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ೩೬೫ ವಿಧಿಗಳು ೨೨ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ, ೮ ಅನುಚ್ಛೇದಗಳನ್ನೂ, ೧೧೮ ತಿದ್ದುಪಡಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಈ ಸಂವಿಧಾನ ಯಾವುದೇ ದೇಶದ ಲಿಖಿತ ಸಂವಿಧಾನಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೀರ್ಘವಾದುದ್ದು. ಈ ಸಂವಿಧಾನದ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯು ೧,೧೭,೩೬೯ ಶಬ್ದಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.

1935 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಿಸರ್ವ್ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್  ರಚನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಿದರು. 1955 ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಉತ್ತಮ ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮಧ್ಯಪ್ರದೇಶ ಮತ್ತು ಬಿಹಾರ ವಿಭಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸಿದ ಮೊದಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ. ಅವರು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತವನ್ನು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಲು ಬಯಸಿದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರು ‘ಲೋಕಸಭೆ’ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದರು ಆದರೆ ಎರಡೂ ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗೆಲ್ಲಲು ವಿಫಲರಾದರು. ಕೊಲಂಬಿಯಾ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಆತ್ಮಚರಿತ್ರೆಯನ್ನು ‘ವೇಟಿಂಗ್ ಫಾರ್ ಎ ವೀಸಾ’ ಪಠ್ಯಪುಸ್ತಕವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರು ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ತತ್ವವನ್ನು ವಿರೋಧಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯು ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿರಲು ಬಯಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರು ಪಿಎಚ್‌ಡಿ ಗಳಿಸಿದ ಮೊದಲ ಭಾರತೀಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಭಾರತದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಪದವಿ. ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಅವರು ಭಾರತದ ಕೆಲಸದ ಸಮಯವನ್ನು ದಿನಕ್ಕೆ 14 ರಿಂದ ಎಂಟು ಗಂಟೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಇಳಿಸಲು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂವಿಧಾನದ ‘ಆರ್ಟಿಕಲ್ 370,’ ದ ತೀವ್ರ ವಿರೋಧಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ಇಂದು ಭರಪೂರ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳಿವೆ.ಆಯೋಗವಿದೆ, ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಇದೆ, ಆಸ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲೂ ಇದೆ. ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯವೆಂದರೆ ಇದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದು? ಅದು ಬಾಬಾಸಾಹೇಬ್ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರರಲ್ಲದೆ ಬೇರಾರು ಅಲ್ಲ. ಈ ದಿಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ದೇಶದ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಕಾನೂನು ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಅಂದು ರೂಪಿಸಿದ ಮಸೂದೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯುವುದಾದರೆ, ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್‍ರವರು ರಚಿಸಿದ ‘ಹಿಂದೂ ಕೋಡ್ ಬಿಲ್” ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ 7 ಅಂಶಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿತ್ತು.

ಬದುಕಿನ ಕೊನೆಯ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ರು ಬೌದ್ಧ ಧರ್ಮ ಸ್ವೀಕಾರದ ನಿರ್ಧಾರಮಾಡಿ ಅಕ್ಟೊಬರ್ 14 1956ರಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ 5ಲಕ್ಷ ಅನುಯಾಯಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪತ್ನಿ ಸವಿತಾ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಾಗ ಜನತೆಯ ಮೂಲ ನಾಡಾದ ನಾಗಪುರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೌದ್ಧ ಧರ್ಮ ಸ್ವೀಕಾರಮಾಡಿ, ಹಿಂದುವಾಗಿ ಸಾಯಲಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞೆ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಇವರಿಗೆ ಬರ್ಮಾದ ಬೌದ್ಧ ಬಂತೆ, ವೀರ ಚಂದ್ರಮಣಿ ಬೌದ್ಧಧೀಕ್ಷೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಮುಂದೆ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್6 1956ರಲ್ಲಿ ದೆಹಲಿಯ ತಮ್ಮ ನಿವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆದರು. ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್7ಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂಬಯಿಯ ದಾದರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೌದ್ಧ ಧರ್ಮದ ನಿಯಮದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಮಹಾಪರಿನಿರ್ವಾಣದ ವಿಧಿಯನ್ನು ಅಂತ್ಯಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು.
