ಜನಗಣತಿಯ ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ 19,500 ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಉಪಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತೃಭಾಷೆಗಳಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ 10,000 ಅಥವಾ ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನರು ಮಾತನಾಡುವ 121 ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿವೆ, ಇದು 121 ಕೋಟಿ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅದು ಹೇಳಿದೆ.

ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂವಿಧಾನ (ವಿಧಿ 343) ಹಿಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಒಕ್ಕೂಟದ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಿಂದಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಸುಮಾರು 20% ನಷ್ಟು ಮಾತೃಭಾಷೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಉತ್ತರ ಭಾರತದ  ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿಜನರನ್ನು ‘ಹಿಂದಿ-ಬೆಲ್ಟ್’ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರ ಪ್ರದೇಶ, ಉತ್ತರಾಖಂಡ, ಉತ್ತರಾಂಚಲ್, ಬಿಹಾರ, ಮಧ್ಯಪ್ರದೇಶ, ಛತ್ತೀಸ್ಗರ್ ಮತ್ತು  ರಾಜಸ್ಥಾನ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳು ಸೇರಿವೆ. ಹರಿಯಾಣ ಮತ್ತು ಹಿಮಾಚಲ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಕೂಡ ಹಿಂದಿಯನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಯಾಗಿ ಹೊಂದಿವೆ.

2010 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪೀಪಲ್ಸ್ ಲಿಂಗ್ವಿಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಸರ್ವೆ ಆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವಾಗ 780 ಭಾರತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದ ದೇವಿ, ಆಘಾತಕಾರಿ ಸಂಗತಿಯೆಂದರೆ, ಈ 600 ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಸಾಯುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಕಳೆದ 60 ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 250 ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಸಾವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿವೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಒಟ್ಟು ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ 121 ಎಂದು ಭಾರತದ ರಿಜಿಸ್ಟ್ರಾರ್ ಜನರಲ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸೆನ್ಸಸ್ ಆಯುಕ್ತರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.121 ಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಎರಡು ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂವಿಧಾನದ ಎಂಟನೇ ವೇಳಾಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿಸಲಾದ ಭಾಷೆಗಳು, ಎಂಟನೇ ವೇಳಾಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿಸದ 22 ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, 99 ಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು “ಇತರ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಒಟ್ಟು” ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದೆ ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ತಲಾ 10,000 ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಭಾಷಿಕರನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿಸಿದ ಅಥವಾ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಭಾಷಾ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಗದ ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾತೃಭಾಷೆಗಳು.

ಭಾರತದ ಒಟ್ಟು ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, 96.71 ಪ್ರತಿಶತದಷ್ಟು ಜನರು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಾತೃಭಾಷೆಯಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ನಿಗದಿತ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಉಳಿದ 3.29 ಶೇಕಡಾ ಇತರ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 780 ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿವೆ, ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 600 ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಅಳಿವಿನಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿವೆ.ಅಂತಹ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳೆಂದರೆ ವಡಾರಿ, ಕೊಲ್ಹತಿ, ಗೊಲ್ಲಾ, ಗಿಸಾರಿ. ಇವು ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ತೆಲಂಗಾಣದ ಅಲೆಮಾರಿ ಜನರ ಭಾಷೆಗಳು. ನಂತರ ಪೌರಿ, ಕೊರ್ಕು, ಹಲ್ಡಿ, ಮಾವ್ಚಿ ಮುಂತಾದ ಹಲವಾರು ಬುಡಕಟ್ಟು ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಅಸ್ಸಾಂನಲ್ಲಿ, ಮೋರನ್, ಟ್ಯಾಂಗ್ಸಾ, ಐಟಾನ್ ಇದೆ. ಕಳೆದ 60 ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 250 ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿವೆ. ಅಧುನಿ, ಡಿಚಿ, ಘಲ್ಲು, ಹೆಲ್ಗೊ, ಕಟಗಿ ಎಂಬ ಭಾಷೆಗಳು ಇದ್ದವು. ಅಂಡಮಾನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿನ ಬೊ ಭಾಷೆ 2010 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಯಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಂನ ಮಾಜಿ ಭಾಷೆ 2015 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಯಿತು. ಆದರೆ ಒಂದು ಭಾಷೆ ತನ್ನ ಜೀವನದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುವುದು ಅಸಾಧ್ಯ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನಾವು ನೆನಪಿನಲ್ಲಿಡಬೇಕು.

ಭಾರತ ಸಾವಿರ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ

ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂವಿಧಾನದ ಎಂಟನೇ ವೇಳಾಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿನ 22  ಭಾಷೆಗಳು:

ಪಂಜಾಬಿ, (14) ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ, (15) ಸಿಂಧಿ, (16) ತಮಿಳು, (17) ತೆಲುಗು, (18) ಉರ್ದು (19) ಬೋಡೋ,

(20) ಸಂತಾಲಿ, (21) ಮೈಥಿಲಿ ಮತ್ತು (22) ಡೋಗ್ರಿ.
