ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೀತೆಯನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದ್ದ ರಾಮ ಸೇತುವೆಯನ್ನು ನಾವು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಕೂಡ ನೋಡಬಹುದು.

ರಾಮನಿಗಿಂತ ಸೀತೆ ಕೇವಲ 2 ವರ್ಷ ಚಿಕ್ಕವಳು. ಆಕೆಗೆ 14 ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಮದುವೆಯಾಯಿತು. ಆಗ ರಾಮನಿಗೆ 16 ವರ್ಷ! ಮದುವೆಯಾಗಿ ಇನ್ನೇನು ಯುವರಾಜನಾಗಿ ಪಟ್ಟಾಭಿಷೇಕವಾಗಬೇಕು, ಆಗ ರಾಮ ಕಾಡಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಬೇಕಾದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ. ಕಾಡಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು ತನ್ನ ಕರ್ಮ, ನೀನು ಬರಬೇಡ ಎಂದು ರಾಮ ಹೇಳಿದರೂ, ಪತಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಧರ್ಮ ಎಂದು ಸೀತೆ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ, ಇವರಿಬ್ಬರನ್ನು ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಶುರುವಾಗುವ ರಾಮನ ಪ್ರೇಮದ ಯಾನ, ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಅಂತ್ಯದವರೆಗೂ ಮುನ್ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುವುದಾದರೆ ಇಡೀ ರಾಮಾಯಣವೇ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರೇಮಪುರಾಣ. 

ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸೀತೆಯ ಅಪಹರಣವಾಯಿತು, ಏಳು ಸಮುದ್ರ ದಾಟಿ ಸೀತೆಯನ್ನು ರಾವಣ ಬಂದಿಯಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟನು. ಸೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಕರೆತರಲು ರಾಮನು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಸೈನ್ಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ರಾಮ ಸೇತುವೆ, ಅಂದರೆ ತೇಲುವ ಕಲ್ಲಿನಿಂದ ಸೇತುವೆಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿ ಸೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸಿಟ್ಟ ಈಗಿನ ಶ್ರೀಲಂಕಾ ಪ್ರದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಹಿಂದೂಗಳ  ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮ  ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗೂ ಆರಾಧ್ಯ ದೈವ. ರಾಮ ಕಾಲ್ಪನಿಕ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಎನ್ನುವವರು ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ರಾಮ ದೇವರಲ್ಲ  ನಮ್ಮ ನಿಮ್ಮಂತೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಅಂತ ವಾದಿಸುವವರೂ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ರಾಮನೂ ಇದ್ದ, ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಯೂ ಇತ್ತು, ರಾಮ ರಾಜ್ಯವೂ ಅಸ್ಥಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಇತ್ತು ಎಂಬ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ ಸಮೇತ ವಾದಿಸಿದವರೂ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವುಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಏನೇ ಇದ್ದರೂ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಹಿಂದೂಗಳ ಎದೆಯ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮ ಪಟ್ಟಾಭಿಷೇಕ ಎಂದೇ ನಡೆದು ಹೋಗಿದೆ.

1400 ಕಿ.ಮೀ ಉದ್ದದ ರಾಮ ಸೇತುವೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ 5 ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗೆ, ಸ್ವತಃ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನೇ ಉಪವಾಸ ವ್ರತವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದನು. ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಮನ ಸೈನ್ಯವು ಲಂಕಾಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಲು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾದ ಈ ಸೇತುವೆ ರಾಮೇಶ್ವರಂ ಅನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀಲಂಕಾದ ಮನ್ನಾರ್‌ಗೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. 15 ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದವರೆಗೂ ಜನರು ಈ ಸೇತುವೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ರಾಮೇಶ್ವರದಿಂದ ಮನ್ನಾರ್‌ಗೆ ದೂರದ ಕಾಲ್ನಡಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಾಹನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ವಿಭೀಷಣನ ಆಜ್ಞೆಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ರಾಮ ಸ್ವತಃ ಸೇತುವೆಯನ್ನು ದುರುಪಯೋಗಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದೆಂಬ ಭಯದಿಂದ ಈ ಸೇತುವೆಯನ್ನು ಮುರಿದಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂದು ನಂಬಲಾಗಿದೆ. ರಾಮ ಸೇತು ವಿಶ್ವಾದ್ಯಂತ ಆಡಮ್ಸ್ ಸೇತುವೆ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ. ವಿಜ್ಞಾನವು ಇಂದು ಈ ಸೇತುವೆಯನ್ನು ರಾಮನ ಯುಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸೇತುವೆ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೂ ಸಿಲೋನಿಗೂ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಸುಮಾರು ೩೬ ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ಉದ್ದದ, ಆಳವಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಮುದ್ರದಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತುವರಿಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಚಿಪ್ಪಿನಂಥ ಮರಳುಗಲ್ಲುಗಳನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಕಿರಿದಾದ, ಅರ್ಧ ಮುಳುಗಿರುವ ಒಡ್ಡು. ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಕೆಲವು ಕಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರಿನ ಆಳ ೩೦ ಅಡಿ ಗಳಷ್ಟಿದ್ದು ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲೇ ಅನೇಕ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಣ್ಣ ದ್ವೀಪಗಳೂ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ಸೇತುವೆಯ ದುರುಪಯೋಗದ ಭೀತಿಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ರಾಮನು ರಾವಣನನ್ನು ಕೊಂದ ನಂತರ ಲಂಕಾದಿಂದ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುವಾಗ ರಾಮ ಸೇತುವೆಯನ್ನು ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿಸಿದ್ದನು. ಕಾಲಾನಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮುದ್ರದ ನೀರಿನ ಮಟ್ಟ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಸೇತುವೆ ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿತು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
