“ಜನ ಗಣ ಮನ” ಈ ದಿನದಂದು ಕಲ್ಕತ್ತಾದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೇಸ್ ನ ಅಧಿವೇಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿ ರವೀಂದ್ರನಾಥ್ ಟಾಗೋರ್ ಹಾಡಿದರು.

ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗೀತೆ ಹಾಡುವಾಗ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಎದ್ದು ನಿಂತು ಭಾರತ ಮಾತೆಗೆ ವಂದಿಸಬೇಕು. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗೀತೆ ಹಾಡುವುದನ್ನು ಅಡ್ಡಿಪಡಿಸಿದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಕಾನೂನಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಾರ್ಹ ಅಪರಾಧವೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಜನವರಿ ೨೪, ೧೯೫೦ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತ ಸರಕಾರವು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗೀತೆ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಿತು.

ರವೀಂದ್ರ ನಾಥ ಠಾಕೂರ್ ಅವರು ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್‌ನ ಕೋಲ್ಕತಾ ಅಧಿವೇಶನದ ಎರಡನೇ ದಿನವಾದ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 27, 1911 ರಂದು ಜನಗಣಮನ ಹಾಡಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಂದೇ ಮಾತರಂ ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಬರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಕೋಲ್ಕತಾ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡಿದ ಜನಗಣನ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಧ್ವನಿಸಿದ್ದಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಭಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ ರೋಮಾಂಚನ, ಭಾವುಕ ಮತ್ತು ಆವೇಶವನ್ನುಂಟು ಮಾಡಿತ್ತು. ‘ಭಾಗ್ಯವಿಧಾತ’ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ಆ ಹಾಡನ್ನು ಬಂಗಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಂಕರಾಭರಣದ ರಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ರವೀಂದ್ರನಾಥ ಠಾಕೂರ್ ಅವರು 1911ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂಗಾಲಿ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಚಿಸಿದ ದೀರ್ಘಗೀತೆಯ ಐದುಪದ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಪದ್ಯದ ಸಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಆಯ್ದಕೊಂಡು ಈ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರ ಭಾರತದ ಸಂವಿಧಾನ ರಚನಾಸಭೆ 1950 ಜನವರಿ 24ರಂದು ಇದನ್ನು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗೀತೆ ಎಂದು ಅಂಗೀಕರಿಸಿತು.

ಠಾಕೂರ್ ಸಂಪಾದಕರಾಗಿದ್ದ ತತ್ತ್ವಬೋಧಿನಿ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ಎಂಬ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು 1912ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಗೆ ಮೊದಲು ಈ ಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು 27 ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 1911ರಂದು ಕಲ್ಕತ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದ ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಅಧಿವೇಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಠಾಕೂರ್ ಅವರು ಇದನ್ನು ‘ಮಾರ್ನಿಂಗ್ ಸಾಂಗ್ ಆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ 1919ರಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷಿಗೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇದು ಭಾರತ ಇಬ್ಬಾಗವಾಗುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಮೊದಲು ಬರೆದ ಗೀತೆಯಾದರೂ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರದ ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳ ಹೆಸರುಗಳನ್ನು ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನಾಂಗಗಳನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗೀತೆಯಾಗಿ ಅಂಗೀಕರಿಸಿದಾಗ ಮೂಲಗೀತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಯಥಾವತ್ತಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಯಿತು. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗೀತೆಗೆ ಗೌರವಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವುದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಭಾರತೀಯನ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ. ಅಗೌರವ ಸೂಚಿಸುವುದು, ಅದರ ಹಾಡುವಿಕೆಗೆ ಅಡ್ಡಿಪಡಿಸುವುದು ಶಾಸನದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಶಿಕ್ಷಾರ್ಹ ಅಪರಾಧ. ವೈವಿಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಏಕತೆ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕ್ರತಿಯ ವೈಶಿಷ್ಟ್ಯ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ಗೀತೆ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾಡಲು ಬೇಕಾಗುವ ಕಾಲಾವಧಿ ಸುಮಾರು 52 ಸೆಕೆಂಡುಗಳು.
