ಆರ್ಕೀಡ್ ಒಂದು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಬಗೆಯ ಹೂವುಗಳು. ಅವುಗಳು ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಶಾನ್ಯ ಗಡಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳಾದ ಅರುಣಾಚಲ ಪ್ರದೇಶ, ಆಸ್ಸಾಮ್, ಮತ್ತು ಮೇಘಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇರಳವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಆರ್ಕೀಡ್ ಗಳು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಮನಮೋಹಕ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ಸುಂದರ ಬಣ್ಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಣ್ಣು ಮತ್ತು ಮನಸ್ಸುಗಳಿಗೆ ಆನಂದವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಮಾರಂಭಗಳಿಗೆ ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಸಲು ಅದರ ಅಂದ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಲು ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ ಬೇಕು. ಜಗತ್ತಿನಾದ್ಯಂತ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ ನ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳಿವೆ. ಉಷ್ಣವಲಯದ ಅರಣ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು. ಸುಮಾರು ೩೫ ಸಾವಿರಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳಿವೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ದುರ್ವಾಸನೆ ಬೀರುವ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಬಗೆಯ ಬಣ್ಣಗಳ ಆರ್ಕೀಡ್ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಡಲಾಗಿವೆ. ಹಿಮಾಲಯದ ಪರ್ವತ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳ್ಲ್ಲಿ ಅವುಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಚೀನಾದ ಕೆಲವು ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಕಂಡು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ.
ಆರ್ಕೀಡ್ಗಳಿವೆಯೆಂದರೆ ಅವಿರುವ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಮಳೆ ಬೀಳುತ್ತದೆ, ಸಹನೀಯ ತೇವಾಂಶವಿದೆಯೆಂದರ್ಥ. ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ನೀರಿಗೆ ಕೊರತೆಯಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಆರ್ಕೀಡ್ಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದೆಂದರೆ ಒಂದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ, ಆರೋಗ್ಯಪೂರ್ಣ, ಜೀವವೈವಿಧ್ಯದ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಪರಿಸರವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದುಯೆಂದರ್ಥ. ಆರ್ಕೀಡನ್ನು ಸೀತಾಳೆ, ಸೀತೆ ಹೂವು ಎಂದು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಇವು ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಮರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರೋಪಜೀವಿಯಂತೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ತಾನು ಬೆಳೆದ ಮರದಿಂದ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯದೆ, ಆಹಾರ ತಯಾರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಪುಷ್ಪಪತ್ರಗಳು ಹೂ ಅರಳುವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಮುನ್ನ ಮೊಗ್ಗನ್ನು ಆವರಿಸಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಎರಡು ಪುಷ್ಪದಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ದಳ ತುಟಿಯಂತಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಆರ್ಕಿಡೇಸೀ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಇವುಗಳು ಬಹುವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಪರ್ಣ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು. ಇವು ಕೆಲವು ಅಂಗುಲಗಳಿಂದ ಹಲವು ಅಡಿಗಳ ಎತ್ತರ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಇವು ಏಕದಳ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು. ಆರ್ಕಿಡೇಸೀ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿರುವಷ್ಟು ಹೂ ಬಿಡುವ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು ಇಡೀ ಸಸ್ಯವರ್ಗದಲ್ಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ೭೮೮ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾದ ಜಾತಿಗಳೂ ಮತ್ತು ೧೮೫೦೦ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಅಡ್ಡತಳಿಗಳಿವೆ. ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳು ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯ ಇದೆ. ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಭೂಸಸ್ಯಗಳು, ಕೊಳೆತು ಬಿದ್ದಿರುವ ಕೆಲವು ಸಸ್ಯಕಾಂಡಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಪುತಿಜನ್ಯ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು, ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿರುವ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಅಪ್ಪು ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು, ಬಂಡೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಶಿಲಾ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳ ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರಕಾರಗಳಿಗೆ ನಿದರ್ಶನಗಳು. ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲ ವಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆದರೂ ಉಷ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಶೀತೋಷ್ಣವಲಯ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಈ ವಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪ್ಪು ಸಸ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು. ಕೆಲವು ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ತವರೂರನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬೇರೆ ಕಡೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇವುಗಳ ಕಾಂಡ ಕವಲೊಡೆಯುವುದನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸಿ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಮೂರು ಗುಂಪುಗಳಾಗಿ ವಿಂಗಡಿಸಿದೆ: ಏಕಕಾಂಡಗಳ ಗುಂಪು, ನಕಲಿ ಏಕಕಾಂಡಗಳ ಗುಂಪು ಮತ್ತು ಬಹು ಕವಲೊಡೆಯುವ ಕಾಂಡಗಳ ಗುಂಪು. ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳ ಎಲೆಗಳ ಆಕಾರ, ರಚನೆ, ಬಣ್ಣ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹು ಭಿನ್ನತೆ ಇದೆ. ಇವು ಹೂಗೊಂಚಲುಗಳು ಮೂಲವಾಗಿ ಅಂತ್ಯಾರಂಭಿ ಮಾದರಿಯವಾಗಿವೆ. ಈ ವಿಧದಲ್ಲಿ ರೇಸೀಮ್, ಸ್ಪೈಕ್ ಮುಂತಾದ ಕೆಲವು ರೀತಿಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳ ಹೂಗಳು ಏಕಲಿಂಗಿಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲಿವೆ ದ್ವಿಲಿಂಗಿಗಳು. ಇವುಗಳ ಹೂರಚನೆ ವಿಚಿತ್ರ. ಪುಷ್ಪಪತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ದಳಗಳು ಕೂಡಿ ಪೆರಿಯಂತ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದು ಎರಡು ಸಾಲುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೂಡಿಕೆಯ ಹೆಸರು ಲಿಪ್. ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ ಹೂಗಳ ಗಂಡುಭಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಣ್ಣುಭಾಗ ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೂಕಂಬ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಣ್ಣು ಕ್ಯಾಪ್ಸ್ಯೂಲುಗಳು.
ಇದನ್ನು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರೋಕ್ತವಾಗಿ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದವರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಸ್ಯವಿಜ್ಞಾನಿ ಲಿನೀಯೆಸ್ ಮೊದಲಿಗ. ಮುಂದೆ ಓಕ್ಸ್ ಎಮ್ಸ್, ಲಿಬರ್ಟಿ ಹೈಡ್ಬೈಲೆ. ಬೆಂತಮ್ ಮತ್ತು ಹೂಕರ್, ಫಿಟ್ಜರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಕ್ಲಟ್ಜರ್ ಮುಂತಾದವರು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ಇಂದು ಬಳಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣ ಫಿಟ್ಜರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಕ್ಲಟ್ಜರ್ ಇವರು ಮಾಡಿರುವ ವಿಧಾನ. ಇದರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣ ಆರು ಅಂಶಗಳ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಗರ್ಭಧಾರಣೆ ವಿಧಾನ.
ಆರ್ಕಿಡೇಸೀ ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ಕೆಲವು ಕುಲ (ಟ್ರೈಬ್) ಮತ್ತು ಉಪಕುಲಗಳಾಗಿ (ಸಬ್ ಟ್ರೈಬ್) ವರ್ಗೀಕರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಉಪಪ್ರಭೇದದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಜಾತಿ (ಜೀನಸ್) ಮತ್ತು ಅನೇಕ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳು (ಸ್ಪಿಷೀಸ್) ಸೇರಿವೆ.
ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಬೀಜ, ಬೇರು ತುಂಡು, ಅಥವಾ ಸಕಲಿ ಲಶುನಗಳಿಂದ ವೃದ್ಧಿ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಜಾತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸಿದೆ. ವೃದ್ಧಿಸಲು ಸಾಧಾರಣವಾಗಿ ಸುಪ್ತಾವಸ್ಥೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ಕಾಲ. ಮಧ್ಯ ಸುಪ್ತಾವಸ್ಥೆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವನ್ನು ಇತರ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಗೆ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಸಾಗಿಸಿ ವೃದ್ಧಿಸಬಹುದು. ಬೇರು ಅಥವಾ ಕಾಂಡ ಮತ್ತು ನಕಲಿ ಲಶುನಗಳನ್ನು ನೆಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂಚೆ ಒಣ ಮತ್ತು ರೋಗಪೀಡಿತ ಭಾಗಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಹಾಕಬೇಕು. ತುಂಡುಗಳನ್ನು ತೇವ ಮಾಡಿದ ಸ್ಪಂಜಿನಿಂದ ಒರಸಿ ಕೆಲವು ದಿವಸಗಳ ಕಾಲ ತೇವಾಂಶ ಇರುವ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತೂಗು ಹಾಕಬೇಕು. ತುಂಡುಗಳನ್ನು ನೆಡುವ ಮೊದಲು ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣ ಮಾಡಿ ಅನಂತರ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಬೇಕು.
ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ ಹೂಗಳು ಎಷ್ಟು ಸುಂದರವೋ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳ ಬೇಸಾಯ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಕಷ್ಟ. ಇತರ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳ ಬೇಸಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಣಿತನಾದ ತೋಟಗಾರ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳ ಬೇಸಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಷ್ಟ ಅನುಭವಿಸುವಂತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಅವು ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಗುಣಗಳ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಗುಂಪುಗಳಾಗಿ ವಿಂಗಡಿಸಬಹುದು. *ಅಪ್ಪು ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು *ಶಿಲಾ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು *ಪುತಿಜನ್ಯ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು *ಭೂ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು.
ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದಷ್ಟು ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡಿನ ಮೂಲಸ್ಥಾನದ ಹವಾ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ಪ್ರತಿಜನ್ಯ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡನ್ನು ಒಣ ಮರದ ತುಂಡಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳೆಸಿ ಕಂಬಿಯಿಂದ ತೂಗುಹಾಕಬೇಕು. ಭೂ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಕುಂಡಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಸಬೇಕು. ಇವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುವ ಕುಂಡಗಳಿಗೆ ೧೦ ಸೆಮೀ. ಅಗಲದ ಅನೇಕ ರಂಧ್ರಗಳು ಇರಬೇಕು. ತೆಂಗಿನ ನಾರು ಅಥವಾ ಪಾಚಿಯನ್ನು ಜೌಗು ರಂಧ್ರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಾಕಬೇಕು. ೪ ಭಾಗ ಒಣ ಪಾಚಿ, ೨ ಭಾಗ ಸಣ್ಣ ಇಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಚೂರು, ೧ ಭಾಗ ಇದ್ದಲು ಪುಡಿ, ೧ ಭಾಗ ಗೋಡು ಮಣ್ಣು, ೧ ಭಾಗ ಎಲೆ ಗೊಬ್ಬರದ ಮಿಶ್ರಣ ಮಾಡಿ ಕುಂಡಗಳಿಗೆ ತುಂಬಲು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸ ಬೇಕು. ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳ ಬೇಸಾಯ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ರೋಗಪೀಡಿತ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಇವುಗಳ ಬೇಸಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿದಾಗ ರೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಬಲಿಯಾಗಿ ನಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಮರದ ತುಂಡು ಮತ್ತು ಗೊಬ್ಬರ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣ ಮಾಡಿ ಅನಂತರ ಬೇಸಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಬೇಕು. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳು ತೇವಾಂಶ ಬಯಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಜಾಗರೂಕತೆಯಿಂದ ನೀರು ಕುಡಿಸಿದರೆ ಅವು ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳ ಬೆಳೆವಣಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯವಿದೆ. ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆವಣಿಗೆ ಇವುಗಳ ಮೊದಲನೆ ಹಂತ. ಈ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವು ಆಹಾರ ಮತ್ತು ನೀರನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ನಕಲಿ ಲಶುನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶೇಖರಿಸಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಎರಡನೆಯ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ನವೆಂಬರ್ ತಿಂಗಳಿಂದ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ ತಿಂಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಸುಪ್ತಾವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೊನೆಯ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಪ್ತಾವಸ್ಥೆಯಿಂದ ಚೇತರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೂ ಬಿಡಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಸುಪ್ತಾವಸ್ಥೆಯ ಕಾಲವನ್ನು ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದ ಬೇಸಾಯಗಾರ ಮಾತ್ರ ಆರ್ಕಿಡ್ಡುಗಳ ಬೇಸಾಯವನ್ನು ಸುಗಮವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಬಲ್ಲ.
