ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕೃಷಿಯ ಇತಿಹಾಸ 10,000 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದಿನದು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕೃಷಿ ಕ್ರಿ.ಪೂ 9000 ರ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳ ಆರಂಭಿಕ ಕೃಷಿ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಳೆಗಳ ಪಳಗಿಸುವಿಕೆಯ ಪರಿಣಾಮವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ಭಾರತದ ಮಧ್ಯಯುಗವು ನೀರಾವರಿ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡಿತು, ಅದು ಹೊಸ ಮಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿತು. ಏಕರೂಪದ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಭೂಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ನೀರು ನಿರ್ವಹಣಾ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸಲಾಯಿತು . ಕೃಷಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಒಟ್ಟು ಶೇಕಡಾ 60 ರಷ್ಟು ಉದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯವು ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪಾಲನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಬರ ಪೀಡಿತ ವರ್ಗ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತಮ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ಕೃಷಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ. ತೀವ್ರ ಹವಾಮಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಮೂಲಸೌಕರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ಬಂಧಗಳು ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯನ್ನು ತಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಇವುಗಳ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ, ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ್ಯವು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಣೀಯ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯ ಸಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದೆ. ರಾಜ್ಯ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಸಾಧನೆ ತೋರಿದೆ ಆದರೆ ಕೃಷಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲೂ ಮುಂದಿದೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ತೋಟಗಾರಿಕೆ, ಹೂಗಾರಿಕೆ, ಆಹಾರ ಸಂಸ್ಕರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಕೃಷಿ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಕೆಲವು ವೈಫಲ್ಯಗಳ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಷಮತೆಗೆ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಿದೆ. ಒಟ್ಟು ಮೌಲ್ಯಮಾಪನದಲ್ಲಿ, ರಾಜ್ಯವು ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಕೃಷಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇಲೆ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಿದೆ.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯವು 19.1 ಮಿಲಿಯನ್ ಹೆಕ್ಟೇರ್ ಪ್ರದೇಶವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ, ಇದು ಭಾರತದ ಒಟ್ಟು ಭೌಗೋಳಿಕ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಶೇಕಡಾ 5.83 ಆಗಿದೆ. ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಇದು ಎಂಟನೇ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಾಜ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸುಮಾರು 56% ರಷ್ಟು ಉದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳು ಕೃಷಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಟ್ಟು 12.31 ದಶಲಕ್ಷ ಹೆಕ್ಟೇರ್ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಅಥವಾ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಒಟ್ಟು ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣದ 64.6% ಕೃಷಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕೃಷಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಬರಪೀಡಿತ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ವಿಶಾಲ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನೀರಾವರಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ವಿರಳ ತೇಪೆಗಳಿಂದ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ, ಕೃಷಿಯ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಭಾಗ ತೀವ್ರ ಕೃಷಿ-ಹವಾಮಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನ್ಸೂನ್‌ನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಒಡ್ಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೃಷಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಶೇಕಡಾ 60 ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನರು ಕೃಷಿಯನ್ನು ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕೃಷಿ ನೈಋತ್ಯ ಮಾನ್ಸೂನ್ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅವಲಂಬಿತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕೇವಲ 26.5. ಬಿತ್ತನೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಶೇಕಡಾ (30,900 ಕಿಮೀ²) ನೀರಾವರಿ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಒಟ್ಟು ಶೇಕಡಾ 64.60
ಭೌಗೋಳಿಕ ಪ್ರದೇಶವು ಸಾಗುವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ತೋಟಗಾರಿಕೆ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಟ್ಟು ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ್ಯವು ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಐದನೇ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇದು ತರಕಾರಿ ಬೆಳೆಗಳ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಐದನೇ ಮತ್ತು ಹಣ್ಣಿನ ಬೆಳೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರನೇ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇದು ಮಸಾಲೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಔಷಧೀಯ ಬೆಳೆಗಳ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಗುಜರಾತ್ ನಂತರ ಹಾಲು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸುವ ಎರಡನೇ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಇದು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ದೇಶದ ಎರಡನೇ ದೊಡ್ಡ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಿ ಉತ್ಪಾದಕ. ಇದು ಸಕ್ಕರೆಯ ಮೂರನೇ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಉತ್ಪಾದಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕಬ್ಬು ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಹೂಗಾರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕವು ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡನೇ ಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ದೇಶದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ರೇಷ್ಮೆ ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸುವ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ರೇಷ್ಮೆ ರಫ್ತು ಮಾಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕವು ಮುಂದಿದೆ. ಒಟ್ಟು ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಫ್ತು ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯ ಶೇಕಡಾ 25 ರ ಪಾಲು.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮಣ್ಣನ್ನು ನಾಲ್ಕು ವಿಧಗಳಾಗಿ ವಿಂಗಡಿಸಬಹುದು:
ಕೆಂಪು ಮಣ್ಣು: ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಮಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಗ್ರಾನೈಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ಗ್ನಿಸ್‌ನ ಹವಾಮಾನದಿಂದ ಪಡೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇದು ಕಬ್ಬಿಣದ ಆಕ್ಸೈಡ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ಕೆಂಪು ಬಣ್ಣದಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಮಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಬ್ಬಿಣ, ಸುಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಉಪ್ಪು ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇದು ಅಲ್ಪ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ಹ್ಯೂಮಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ಸಹ ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಳೆಯಾಶ್ರಿತ ಬೆಳೆಗಳಾದ ರಾಗಿ, ಜೋಳ, ಬಜ್ರಾ, ರಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಬೇಳೆಕಾಳುಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ಮಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಯಬಹುದು.
ಕಪ್ಪು ಮಣ್ಣು: ಬಸಾಲ್ಟ್ ಬಂಡೆಗಳ ಹವಾಮಾನದಿಂದ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಮಣ್ಣು ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಅಲ್ಯೂಮಿನಿಯಂ, ಮೆಗ್ನೀಸಿಯಮ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕಬ್ಬಿಣದ ಆಕ್ಸೈಡ್‌ಗಳಿಂದ ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಇದು ಕಪ್ಪು ಬಣ್ಣದ್ದಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಮಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ದಿನಗಳವರೆಗೆ ತೇವಾಂಶವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವಿದೆ. ಈ ಮಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಷಕಾಂಶಗಳು ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವ ಕಾರಣ, ಈ ಮಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹತ್ತಿ, ಜೋಳ, ಸೂರ್ಯಕಾಂತಿ, ಮೆಕ್ಕೆಜೋಳ ಮುಂತಾದ ವಿವಿಧ ಬೆಳೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಯಬಹುದು.
ಲ್ಯಾಟರೈಟ್ ಮಣ್ಣು: ಈ ಮಣ್ಣು ಭಾರೀ ಮಳೆಯಾಗುವ ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ತಾಪಮಾನವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಮಣ್ಣು ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೃದುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಣಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಲ್ಯಾಟರೈಟ್ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ರಚನೆಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಬಂಡೆಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಉದ್ದೇಶಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಮಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಯಬಹುದಾದ ಬೆಳೆಗಳು ಗೋಡಂಬಿ, ಕಾಫಿ, ಚಹಾ, ಏಲಕ್ಕಿ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ.
ಕೋಸ್ಟಲ್ ಅಲುವಿಯಲ್ ಮಣ್ಣು: ನದಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಮುದ್ರದ ಅಲೆಗಳಿಂದ ಸಾಗಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವ ಅಲುವಿಯಮ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಸರುಗಳ ಶೇಖರಣೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಕರಾವಳಿಯುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಮಣ್ಣು ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಸಾವಯವ ಪೋಷಕಾಂಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಮಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಬೆಳೆಗಳು ಭತ್ತ, ಗೋಡಂಬಿ, ತೆಂಗಿನಕಾಯಿ, ಬಾಳೆಹಣ್ಣು ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಭತ್ತದ ಕೃಷಿ: ಭತ್ತವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಬಹಳ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದ ಆಹಾರ ಬೆಳೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಜನರ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಆಹಾರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಒಟ್ಟು ಕೃಷಿ ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 28.2% ರಷ್ಟು ಭತ್ತವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭತ್ತ ಬೆಳೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೃಷ್ಣ ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾ ಕಣಿವೆ, ಕಾವೇರಿ ಕಣಿವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕರಾವಳಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳು ಭತ್ತದ ಕೃಷಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿವೆ. ಭತ್ತದ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಯಚೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಮೊದಲ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳನ್ನು ಮನೆಯವರಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬಳಕೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳು ರೂಪವಿಜ್ಞಾನ, ರುಚಿ, ಸುವಾಸನೆ, ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿವೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಭತ್ತವನ್ನು ವಿವಿಧ ಮಣ್ಣು ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯಾಪಕ ಮಳೆಯ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ತಾಪಮಾನಡಾ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ. ಒಟ್ಟು ಎಕರೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇವಲ 44 ಪ್ರತಿಶತ ಮಾತ್ರ ನೀರಾವರಿ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೆ, ಉಳಿದವು

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಬ್ಬಿನ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆ: ಕಬ್ಬು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಬೆಳೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಬ್ಬಿನ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇದು ಸುಕ್ರೋಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇದನ್ನು ಬೆಲ್ಲ ಮತ್ತು ಸಕ್ಕರೆಯನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸಲು ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಬೆಳೆ ಕಬ್ಬು ಆಗಲು ನೀರಾವರಿ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಬೇಕು. ಬೆಲಗವಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಬ್ಬಿನ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಂತರ ಬಾಗಲ್ಕೋಟ್, ಮಂಡ್ಯ, ಮೈಸೂರು, ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ, ದಾವಣಗೆರೆ, ಹಾಸನ, ಕೊಪ್ಪಳ, ವಿಜಯಪುರ, ಬೀದರ್, ಬಳ್ಳಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹಾವೇರಿ ಕಬ್ಬು ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಾಗಿವೆ.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೆಕ್ಕೆಜೋಳದ ಕೃಷಿ: ಭತ್ತದ ನಂತರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೋಳದ ಎರಡನೇ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಬೆಳೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಜೋಳದ ಕೃಷಿಯ ಒಟ್ಟು ಪ್ರದೇಶವು ಸಾಗುವಳಿ ಮಾಡಬಹುದಾದ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ 26% ಆಗಿದೆ. ಜೋಳದ ಉತ್ತರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಜನರ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಆಹಾರವಾಗಿದೆ. ರೊಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸಲು ಇದನ್ನು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಜೋಳದ ಸಸ್ಯದ ತೊಟ್ಟುಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾನುವಾರುಗಳಿಗೆ ಮೇವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ದಕ್ಷಿಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಜೋಳವನ್ನು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಜಾನುವಾರು ಸಾಕಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೋಳದ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಜಯಪುರ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
