ಸೀತಾ ದೇವಿಯು ಕೇವಲ 18 ನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನೊಂದಿಗೆ ವನವಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿದೆ. ತಾಯಿ ಸೀತೆ ಮದುವೆಯ ನಂತರ ಎಂದಿಗೂ ತನ್ನ ತಾಯಿಯ ಮನೆಯಾದ ಜಾನಕಪುರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ವನವಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳುವ ಮೊದಲು ತಂದೆ ಜನಕ ಮಹಾರಾಜನು ಸೀತಾ ದೇವಿಯನ್ನು ಜಾನಕಪುರಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವಂತೆ ಕೇಳಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಆದರೆ, ಸೀತೆ ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಪತಿ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೂ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಪತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಾಡಿಗೆ ತೆರಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

ಅಯೋಧ್ಯೆಯ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನವನ್ನು ಏರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿ ಬಂದವಳು ಪೊಡವಿಯ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಸಂಪತ್ತು, ಭೋಗ, ಭಾಗ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಂತ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಡವಿಹಾಕಿ, ಅಡವಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಬೇಕಾಗಿ ಬಂದಾಗ ತಟ್ಟನೆ ಸಿದ್ಧಳಾದವಳು ಸೀತೆ. ಆಗ ಅವಳ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಹೇಗಿದ್ದಿರಬಹುದು? ದಶರಥನ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ರಾಮ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಸೀತೆ ತೆತ್ತ ಬೆಲೆ ಬಹಳ ದುಬಾರಿಯಾದುದು. ಈ ಘಟನೆಯೇ ಮುಂದೆ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಘನಘೋರ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ನಾಂದಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಸೀತೆಯ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ವಿವಿಧ ಬಗೆಯಿಂದ ಅಗ್ನಿಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಈಡುಮಾಡಿತು.
ರಾವಣನು ಸೀತಾ ಮಾತೆಯನ್ನು ಅಪಹರಿಸಿ ಲಂಕಾದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟಾಗ, ಹನುಮಂತನು ಸೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿಕೊಂಡು ಲಂಕಾಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆಗ ಹನುಮಂತನು ಸೀತೆಯನ್ನೇ ನೋಡಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆಂದು ಕಂಡು ಹಿಡಿಯಲು ಸೀತೆಯು ಹನುಮನಿಗೆ ರಾಮನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದ ಚೂಡಾಮಣಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಇದು ರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಸೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತು ಹಿಡಿಯಲು ಅವಕಾಶ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿತು.
ಮಹಾಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಕುಂತಿ :
ಮಹಾಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಸ್ತಿನಾಪುರದ ಪಾಂಡು ಮಹಾರಾಜನ ಪತ್ನಿ. ವಿವಾಹ ಪೂರ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಕೆ ಸೂರ್ಯನಿಂದ ಕರ್ಣನನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಳು. ಈಕೆ ಯುಧಿಷ್ಠಿರ, ಭೀಮ ಮತ್ತು ಅರ್ಜುನರ ತಾಯಿ. ಈಕೆಯ ಕಥೆಯು ಭಾಗವತ ಪುರಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂಡ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವಳು ನಕುಲಾ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹದೇವನ ಮಲತಾಯಿ ಅಥವಾ ಸಾಕು ತಾಯಿ. ಕುಂತಿ ತುಂಬಾ ಸುಂದರ ಮತ್ತು ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದಳು. ಆಕೆ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಮುಖ್ಯಪಾತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬಳು.
ಕುಂತಿ ಯಾದವ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥ ಶುರಸೇನನ ಮಗಳು. ಅವಳ ಜನ್ಮ ಹೆಸರು ಪ್ರಿತಾ. ಕುಂತಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ತಂದೆ ವಸುದೇವನ ಸಹೋದರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃಷ್ಣನೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿಕಟ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡವಳು. ಆಕೆಯ ತಂದೆ ತನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಸೋದರಸಂಬಂಧಿ ಕುಂತಿಭೋಜನಿಗೆ ಕುಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟರು.
