ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ ೧೨, ೧೯೪೯ರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಾಠಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರದ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಗಂಡು ಮಗು ಜನಿಸಿತು. ಆ ಮಗುವಿಗೆ ಶಿವಾಜಿ ರಾವ್ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಮಗು ಐದನೆಯ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೇ ತಾಯಿಯ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ವಂಚಿತವಾಯಿತು. ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಪಾಠಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲೂ, ಮುಂದೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ರಾಮಕೃಷ್ಣ ವಿದ್ಯಾಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಓದಿ ಹುಡುಗ ಒಂದಷ್ಟು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಬಂದಷ್ಟೇ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಎಂದುಕೊಂಡು ನಡೆಸತೊಡಗಿದ. ೧೯೬೮ ರಿಂದ ೧೯೭೩ ರ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚೆನ್ನೈ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲೋ ಒಂದು ಕಡೆ ನೆಲೆ ಸಿಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಅತ್ತಿಂದಿತ್ತ ಅಲೆದಾಡುತ್ತಲೇ ಕಾಲ ತಳ್ಳಿದ ಹುಡುಗ. ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡಕ್ಟರ್ ಆಗಿ ಒಂದು ನೆಲೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡರು.
