ಅಟಲ್ ಬಿಹಾರಿ ವಾಜಪೇಯಿ ಕಾಲ 25 ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 1924 – 16 ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 2018 ವಾಜಪೇಯಿಯವರು ಭಾರತದ ಮಾಜಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಮಂತ್ರಿ, ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿ, ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಸಂಸದೀಯ ಪಟು, ವಾಗ್ಮಿ, ಕವಿ, ನೇತಾರ ಹಾಗೂ ಜನನಾಯಕ. ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರಧಾನಮಂತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿ ಇದಕ್ಕೂ ಮುಂಚೆ ವಿದೇಶಾಂಗ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿ, ವಿರೋಧ ಪಕ್ಷದ ನಾಯಕರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಭ್ಯತೆ, ಹಾಸ್ಯಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ, ಉದಾರ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ನಡವಳಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ನಾಯಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರಜಾಸತ್ತಾತ್ಮಕ ಕೂಟದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಅವರು ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಮಂತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು, ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ 1996 ರಲ್ಲಿ 13 ದಿನಗಳ ಅವಧಿಗೆ, 1998 ರಿಂದ 1999 ರವರೆಗೆ ಹನ್ನೊಂದು ತಿಂಗಳ ಅವಧಿ, ಮತ್ತು ನಂತರ 1999 ರಿಂದ 2004 ರವರೆಗಿನ ಪೂರ್ಣಾವಧಿಗೆ.ಲೋಕಸಭೆ, ಕೆಳಮನೆಗೆ ಹತ್ತು ಬಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮೇಲ್ಮನೆಗೆ ರಾಜ್ಯಸಭೆಗೆ ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾದ ಅವರು ನಾಲ್ಕು ದಶಕಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂಸತ್ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. 2009 ರವರೆಗೆ ಉತ್ತರ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಲಖನೌದ ಸಂಸತ್ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿಯೂ ಅವರು ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಆರೋಗ್ಯದ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ರಾಜಕೀಯದಿಂದ ನಿವೃತ್ತರಾದರು. 1968 ರಿಂದ 1972 ರವರೆಗೆ ನೇತೃತ್ವ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನ ಸಂಘದ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಸದಸ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಜಪೇಯಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಮೊರಾರ್ಜಿ ದೇಸಾಯಿಯ ಕ್ಯಾಬಿನೆಟ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದೇಶಾಂಗ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರೊಬ್ಬ ಕವಿ, ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ, ವಾಗ್ಮಿ, ಚಿಂತಕ, ದಾರ್ಶನಿಕ, ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಅಟಲಜಿಯವರು, 25ನೇ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 1924ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣದೇವಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಬಿಹಾರಿ ವಾಜಪೇಯಿ ಅವರ ಮಗನಾಗಿ ಮಧ್ಯ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಗ್ವಾಲಿಯರ ಹತ್ತಿರದ ಶಿಂದೆ ಕಿ ಚವ್ವಾಣಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು.ತಂದೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಕವಿ ಮಾತ್ತು ಶಾಲೆಯ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯರು. ಅಟಲರವರ ಅಜ್ಜ ಪಂಡಿತ್ ಶ್ಯಾಮ್ ಲಾಲ್ ವಾಜಪೇಯಿ ರವರು ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಸರುವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ಅಟಲ್ ಅವರ ಪದವಿಯನ್ನು ವಿಕ್ಟೋರಿಯಾ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಿಂದ (ಈಗ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಬಾಯಿ ಕಾಲೇಜು) ಪಡೆದರು. ಹಿಂದಿ, ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯ ಗಳಿಸಿದ ಅಟಲ್ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಪದವಿಯನ್ನ ಕಾನ್ಪುರದ ಡಿ.ಎ.ವಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಿಂದ ಪಡೆದರು.
ಕಾನ್ಪುರದ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಬಾಯಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಸ್ಟರ್ ಡಿಗ್ರಿ ಪಡೆದ ಅಟಲ್ 1942ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ವಿಟ್ ಇಂಡಿಯ ಚಳವಳಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ, ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನಸಂಘದ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಶ್ಯಾಮ್ ಪ್ರಸಾದ್ ಮುಖರ್ಜಿ ಅವರ ನಿಕಟವರ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದರು. ನಂತರ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕ ಸಂಘ (ಆರ್.ಎಸ್.ಎಸ್)ವನ್ನು ಸೇರಿದರು. ‘ವೀರ ಅರ್ಜುನ’ ಹಾಗೂ ‘ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯ’ ಎನ್ನುವ ಎರಡು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರಾಗಿ ಕವಿಯಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು.
ಇವರು ರಾಜಕಾರಣದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕøತಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 1961 ರಿಂದ ಬಹುಕಾಲ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಭಾವೈಕ್ಯತಾ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರು. ಆಲ್ ಇಂಡಿಯ ಸ್ಟೇಷನ್ ಮಾಸ್ಟರ್ಸ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಅಸಿಸ್ಟೆಂಟ್ಟ್ ಸ್ಟೇಷನ್ ಮಾಸ್ಟರ್ಸ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್‍ನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಪಂಡಿತ ದೀನದಯಾಳು ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯ ಸ್ಮಾರಕ ಸಮಿತಿ, ದೀನದಯಾಳು ಧಾಮ, ಜನ್ಮಭೂಮಿ ಸ್ಮಾರಕ ಸಮಿತಿಗಳ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ರಾಜ್ಯಸಭೆ, ಲೋಕಸಭೆಗಳ ಅನೇಕ ಸಮಿತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರು ಕವಿ-ಬರೆಹಗಾರರಾಗಿಯೂ ಹೆಸರು ಗಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಧರ್ಮ, ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯ, ಸ್ವದೇಶಿ ಹಾಗೂ ವೀರ ಅರ್ಜುನ್ ಮುಂತಾದ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳ ಸಂಪಾದಕರಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮೇರಿ ಇಕ್ಯಾವನ್ ಕವಿತಾಯೇಂ, ಸಂಕಲ್ಪಕಾಲ, ಕೈದಿ ಕವಿರಾಜ್ ಕೇ ಕುಂಡಲಿಯಾ (ತುರ್ತು ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೆರೆಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಚಿಸಿದ ಕವನಗಳು), ಅಮರ್ ಆಗ್ ಹೈ (ಕವನ ಸಂಕಲನಗಳು) ಮೇರಿ ಸಂಸದೀಯ ಯಾತ್ರಾ (4 ಸಂಪುಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ), ಶಕ್ತಿ ಸೇ ಶಾಂತಿ, ಲೋಕ ಸಭಾ ಮೆ ಅಟಲ್‍ಜೀ (ಭಾಷಣಗಳ ಸಂಪುಟ: ಮೃತ್ಯು ಯಾ ಹತ್ಯಾ, ಅಟಲ್ ಬಲಿದಾನ್), ಜನಸಂಘ ಔರ್ ಮುಸಲ್ಮಾನ್, ಸಂಸದ್ ಮೇ ತೀನ್ ದಶಕ್ (ಮೂರು ಸಂಪುಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ), ಇವು ಹಿಂದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಚಿತವಾದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕೃತಿಗಳಾಗಿವೆ. ಫೋರ್ ಡಿಕೇಡ್ಸ್ ಇನ್ ಪಾರ್ಲಿಮೆಂಟ್ (ಭಾಷಣಗಳು, ಮೂರು ಸಂಪುಟ) ಹಾಗೂ ನ್ಯೂ ಡೈಮೆನ್‍ಷನ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾಸ್ ಫಾರಿನ್ ಪಾಲಿಸಿ-ಇವು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊರಬಂದಿರುವ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳು.
ಇವರು 1996 ಮೇ 16-31ರವರೆಗೆ ಮೊದಲಬಾರಿ, 1998-99ರವರೆಗೆ ಎರಡನೆಯಬಾರಿ ಹಾಗೂ 1999 ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 13 ರಿಂದ 2004 ಮೇ 12ರವರೆಗೆ ಮೂರನೆಯ ಬಾರಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು. 1998-99ರ ಇವರ ಅಧಿಕಾರಾವಧಿಯನ್ನು ಧೈರ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ದೃಢ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇವರ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಕ್ರಾನ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಅಣುಬಾಂಬ್ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಾರ್ಥ ಸ್ಫೋಟದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಭಾರತ ಅಣುಬಾಂಬ್ ಹೊಂದಿದ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಯಾಯಿತು(1998). ಎರಡೂ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಸೌಹಾರ್ದವನ್ನು ವೃದ್ಧಿಸುವ ಆಶಾಭಾವನೆಯಿಂದ ಭಾರತ-ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಬಸ್ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು(1999). ಇವರ ಅಧಿಕಾರಾವಧಿಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಗಿಲ್ ಯುದ್ಧ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿ ಭಾರತ ವಿಜಯಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಸೌಹಾರ್ದದ ಈ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ನಿಂತಿತು. ಈಗ ಮೂಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಭಾರತ-ಪಾಕ್ ಶಾಂತಿಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಗೆ ವಾಜಪೇಯಿ ಚಾಲನೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ಇವರು ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿ ಭಾರತದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಪಾರ ಕಾಳಜಿ ವಹಿಸಿದರು. ಇವರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾಗತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನಡೆ ಇದ್ದಿತಾದರೂ ಭಾರತ ಶೇ. 5.8 ಜಿ.ಡಿ.ಪಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಾಧಿಸಿದ್ದು ಒಂದು ಸಾಧನೆ. ಇವರು ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಬಡಜನರ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸಬಲೀಕರಣದ ಮಹದೋದ್ದೇಶ ಹೊಂದಿ, ಉತ್ತಮ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಮೂಲಭೂತ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ, ಮಾನವ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳ ಬೆಳೆವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಯೋಜಿಸಿದರು. ಭಾರತ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಬಲ ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬೀ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರವಾಗಬೇಕೆಂಬುದು ಇವರ ಹೆಬ್ಬಯಕೆ. 52ನೆಯ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಕೆಂಪುಕೋಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಚರಿಸಿದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ “ನನಗೊಂದು ಭವ್ಯ ಭಾರತದ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯಿದೆ. ಆ ಭಾರತ ಹಸಿವೆಯಿಂದ, ಭಯದಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ; ಆ ಭಾರತ ನಿರಕ್ಷರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ದಾರಿದ್ರ್ಯದಿಂದ ದೂರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರನ್ನು 90ರ ದಶಕದ ಭಾರತದ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಬಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೊದಲಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಹಿಂದು ಸಂಘಪರಿವಾರದ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮುಖವಾಣಿಯಾದ ಜನಸಂಘ, ಜನತಾಪಕ್ಷ, ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜನಸಂಘಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಘಟಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಚೂಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ಈ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಎನ್.ಡಿ.ಎ. (ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರಜಾಸತ್ತಾತ್ಮಕ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟ) ಎಂಬ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟವನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿ ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ಅನಿವಾರ್ಯವಾದ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ನಾಂದಿ ಹಾಡಿದರು. ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಸ್ಥಿರತೆಯ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ, ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಬೆಳೆವಣಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಗತಿ, ಉತ್ತಮ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿಗಳ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ, ಕೈಗಾರಿಕೆಗಳ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಉತ್ತಮ ವಿದೇಶಾಂಗ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳು ಇವರ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸಾಧನೆಗಳೆನ್ನಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಗುಜರಾತಿನ ಕೋಮುವಾದಿ ಗಲಭೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಹಿಂದೆಂದೂ ಕಾಣದ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಹಿಂಸಾಚಾರ ಇವರ ಕಾಲದ ದುರ್ಘಟನೆಗಳು. ಅನಂತರದ ಸಾರ್ವತ್ರಿಕ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (2004) ಇವರ ನಾಯಕತ್ವದ ಎನ್.ಡಿ.ಎ. ಒಕ್ಕೂಟ ಸೋತು ಇವರ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ನಾಯಕತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿನ್ನೆಡೆ ಉಂಟಾಯಿತು. ಲೋಕಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿರೋಧ ಪಕ್ಷದ ನಾಯಕತ್ವವನ್ನೂ ಇವರು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರರಾಜಕಾರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಜೆಪಿಯ ಒಳವ್ಯವಹಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ವಾಜಪೇಯಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ. ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಜಾತಶತ್ರು ಎಂದೇ ಹೆಸರು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮಾತುಗಾರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರನ್ನು
ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಜಾತಶತ್ರು ಎಂದೇ ಹೆಸರು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮಾತುಗಾರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಮೀರಿಸುವರಿಲ್ಲ. ವಿಶ್ವಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರು.
ಇವರಿಗೆ ಪದ್ಮವಿಭೂಷಣ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ(1992), 1994ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಸಂಸದೀಯ ಪಟು ಎಂಬ ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರ ಲಭಿಸಿವೆ.
